Absurd Curiosities was an experiment by Zelda Halopile and her artist imp, familiar, Tumulu. The idea was to write two books at exactly the same time, featuring creatures that Zelda had created using magic.
One book was full of bright images and funny rhymes, completely suitable for children – Zelda’s Absurd Curiosities. Whilst the other was a small book of very dark poetry and rituals that was only suitable for adults – Zelda’s Darkly Absurd Curiosities.
Although it could be said that the experiment was a failure… Very few copies of the books were ever sold, Zelda has stated that it was a very satisfying experience that clearly showed that there was a definite dangerous and wildly unpredictable split in her personality.
The project began off the back of some artwork that was created by Tumului for Zelda’s website. Zelda had stated that the work was far too good to be just stuck on a web page and came up with the idea of books that were heavy on the artwork and a little light on the word front.
It took nearly a year of work, with formatting driving Zelda to a point of dropping off the radar for a long time before reappearing and declaring that she was almost finished with Can Tea Really Make You Invisible?
